Man believed to be homeless charged in fatal Philly train fight

A man investigators believe may be homeless was charged Friday for his alleged role in a fight on a SEPTA platform in which another man was killed when he was pushed onto the tracks.

Chaz Latone Wearing, 40, was charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the Thursday afternoon scuffle in University City, NBC10 reported, citing the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.

The charges are subject to change if additional information comes to light.

Wearing currently has bench warrant status for an unrelated strangulation case in Delaware County, the outlet added.

Wearing’s criminal history also includes cases in Clinton and Lycoming Counties, public records showed.

Troubling footage of the SEPTA station fight showed two men – including one believed to be Wearing – shouting at each other just a few inches from the platform edge.

The suspect punched the other man twice, knocking him onto the tracks just as a train pulled into the station.

Wearing was subsequently taken into custody at the next station stop, police explained.

The victim has not been identified publicly.

Wearing was arrested at the next SEPTA station.

Philadelphia Police Inspector Kpana Massaquoi told NBC10 the incident “appeared to be some type of physical altercation.”

We don’t know exactly what took place prior to that to initiate this, but it’s being investigated at this point,” he said.

Locals say transit violence has been increasing in recent years.

“It’s not too surprising,” Jennifer McCray, from Upper Darby, told WPVI of the tragedy.

This incident occurred on the platform for the Market-Frankford line.

It has increased a lot in the past few years, especially post-pandemic. I think there could be more police presence to contain the crowd and violence,” she added.

The Philadelphia DA’s Office did not immediately return The Post’s request for a comment on the case.
