A 17-year-old boy, his mother and her boyfriend were arrested Tuesday after a family of four was found dead in their home days earlier.
The unidentified teen was charged with four counts of homicide, while his mother, 34-year-old Brynn Curtis, and her boyfriend, 21-year-old Rafael Gonzalez, were charged with accessory, according to ABC 30.
Victims Guadalupe “Kiki” Bonds, 44, and Billy Bonds, 81, were found dead inside their home on South Church Avenue in Reedley, near Fresno, on Saturday.
Billy’s son Darrell Bonds, 61, was found inside a shallow grave in the backyard, according to ABC 30.
The fourth victim, Matthew Bonds, 43, was found inside the detached garage at a home, where the 17-year-old was arrested on Tuesday.
Authorities said the four died from substantial violent injuries,” but their official cause of death has yet to be determined by the coroner.
“In my 30 years, this is one of the most heinous crimes I have ever been involved in,” Reedley Chief Joe said at a press conference Wednesday.
Garza believes the 17-year-old did not act alone and had more help than just his mother and her boyfriend.
Detectives have alleged a possible motive involved stolen items taken from Billy’s home that were found at the suspect’s, according to ABC 30. Officers found that a gun safe in the victims’ home believed to hold various rifles and pistols was empty, according to Fox News.
Police have also obtained warrants for homes in Parlier and Selma, where two vehicles were impounded, according to ABC 30.
The teen remains in custody without bond, while Curtis and Gonzalez were released on bond Wednesday, according to Fox.
Curtis had previously been arrested on DUI charges and her boyfriend had a prior drug arrest, according to Your Central Valley.
Friends of Kiki said she was “constantly involved” in her community and church and are remembering her as ” extremely helpful, compassionate, caring, selfless, funny, and loving,” according to a GoFundMe page.
“Kiki will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts,” they wrote. “Kiki is greatly loved. We will treasure every precious moment we had with her.”
